Amla is also called Amalaki, Amalaki, Yukam, or Komikan. In India, it is used both as food and for medicinal purposes. Since it has a sour and astringent taste, it is recommended to eat it as achar (pickle), or thinly sliced with salt, or mixed with chopped vegetables in a salad rather than eating it raw. It can also be cooked with jaggery (cane sugar) and made into syrup to mix with soda.
